Sian Ka''an was declared a Natural Reserve and a UNESCO World Heritage Site on January 20th, 1986. Spanning 528,147 acres, the reserve is 99% state owned and 1% privately owned, with around 1800 inhabitants. Archeologists have uncovered 23 Mayan sites in Sian Ka''an, including the ruins of Chenchomac, Chunyaxché, and El Plantal, where they discovered ancient mummies, ceramics, and other relics dating back over 2300 years.

Sian Ka''an hosts 859 plant species and 326 animal species. Sian Ka''an is the second most important breeding ground for bird species in danger of extinction: the American wood stork, the white stork, long haired heron, the peregrine falcon, the osprey and the white eagle. It is also the primary breeding ground for the albino heron. Of the 326 animal species, 96 are mammals. The variety of animal life in Sian Ka''an includes: 39 species of bats, 2 species of dolphins, 4 species of whales, 6 species of turtles, manatees, pumas, ocelots, jaguars, spider monkeys, and the largest number of crocodiles found in Mexico.

The multi-colored fish, coral formations, and other species that this delicate ecosystem has to offer will leave a heartwarming lasting impression, and to finish our boat tour swim in the natural pool or like local people say "blanquisal".

Finally, we will enjoy a delicious buffet overlooking the Caribbean Sea, before preparing to head back along the charming wooded coastal roads. Once back in Tulum, we will board the return transports returning you to your hotels.
